Overview

This COBOL development system includes a number of SQL preprocessors including the the DB2 External Checker Module (ECM). SQL preprocessors enable you to access relational databases by embedding SQL statements within your COBOL program.

This COBOL development system includes the DB2 External Checker Module (ECM). This is an SQL preprocessor that enables you to access relational databases by embedding SQL statements within your COBOL program.

You can:

• Use one of the following preprocessors supplied with your COBOL development system:
  • OpenESQL for use with ODBC 3.0-compliant drivers
  • DB2 ECM for use with DB2 databases
• Use a preprocessor supplied by your database vendor without COBSQL. If you plan to do this, you need to make the COBOL environment aware of the database software, as you do with COBSQL. For further information see the section Preparation in the chapter COBSQL.
